Three people have died and at least 12 others were injured after a passenger bus veered out of control and overturned in Feni’s Daganbhuiyan Upazila.

The accident occurred around 11am on Thursday on the Feni-Noakhali Highway near Silonia, said Mohipal Highway Police Station chief Harunur Rashid.

Among the deceased, two have been identified as Daganbhuiyan residents Md Shraban, 20, who was an autorickshaw driver, and Shamim Ara Begum, 50. The identity of the third victim has yet to be determined.

One of the injured has been sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

According to police and witnesses, a Sugandha Paribahan passenger bus heading from Feni to Noakhali struck several small vehicles on the roadside near the U-turn of Silonia Bridge before overturning. A pickup van coming from behind also rammed the bus.

At least 15 people, including bus passengers and pedestrians, were injured in the incident. Police, Fire Service and locals launched a rescue operation after receiving the news.

Daganbhuiyan Police Station OC Wahid Parvez said the highway police have recovered the bus, and the three bodies have been sent to the hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations.

Mohipal OC Harunur added that the bus driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. Police have launched an operation to arrest him, and legal proceedings are under way.
