A man has surrendered to police on Saturday after allegedly killing his wife following a domestic dispute in the city’s Patenga area.
The incident took place in South Para just before Iftar, police said.
The victim, 30-year-old Halima Akter, was the wife of Zahirul Islam.
The couple was originally from Ramganj in Lakshmipur district and lived in a rented house in the South Para neighbourhood.
Patenga Police Station Sub-Inspector Rokibul Islam told bdnews24.com that Zahirul arrived at the station and turned himself in after fatally stabbing his wife.
According to a police officer who spoke on condition of anonymity, the couple had been embroiled in a long-standing domestic feud.
The dispute reportedly escalated into a heated argument on Saturday evening.
At one point, Zahirul allegedly attacked Halima with a knife, killing her on the spot before heading directly to the police station to confess.
