Mother, daughter die as bus carrying tourists to Tanguar Haor overturns

Ten others are injured as a Sejuti Travellers bus rolls into a roadside ditch in Sunamganj’s Pagla Bazar area

A woman and her daughter have been killed and 10 other people injured after a bus carrying tourists to Sunamganj’s Tanguar Haor overturned into a roadside ditch.

The accident occurred around 6am on Friday in the Pagla Bazar area of the Sunamganj-Sylhet Regional Highway, according to Sumon Kumar Chowdhury, chief of Joykalash Highway Police.

The dead have been identified as Manzura Akhter, 37, and her daughter Ayesha Siddiqui, 10. They were residents of Dhaka’s Kadamtali area.

Joykalash Highway Police rescued the injured with the support of locals and have admitted them to the hospital.

The bodies of the dead have been sent to the Sunamganj Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations.

“They had come from Dhaka to Sunamganj for a visit to Tanguar Haor,” said Sumon.

“Along the way, the Sejuti Travels passenger bus suddenly skidded off the road in Sunamganj’s Pagla Bazar area. A woman and her daughter were killed in the incident.”
