Fire breaks out at Peyala Café in Dhaka's Karwan Bazar

The Fire Service says it received news of the fire at 8:22pm and reached the site within 10 minutes

A fire has broken out at a coffee house in Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar, causing significant damage.

The incident occurred on Saturday at the Peyala Café on the ground floor of Jahangir Tower, in front of the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel.

According to a statement from the Fire Service and Civil Defence, they received news of the fire at 8:22pm and reached the site within 10 minutes.

"Two units from Tejgaon Fire Station worked tirelessly and brought the fire under control by around 8:45pm," the statement said.

It took an additional 10 minutes to fully extinguish the fire.

The building also houses the private television channel Ekushey.

The Fire Service has not yet been able to provide information regarding the extent of the damage or the cause of the fire.
