Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Farah Mahbub have been sworn in as judges to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, Bangladesh's highest court.

Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed administered their oaths on Tuesday morning at the Supreme Court Judges’ Lounge. The ceremony was conducted by Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan, registrar general of the Supreme Court.

The ceremony commenced at 10am, and ended with a photo session with the chief justice after the newly appointed judges were sworn in.

A day earlier, on Monday, the Ministry of Law issued an order appointing the two to the Appellate Division, making them the sixth and seventh judges at the court. Both justices served in the High Court Division of the Supreme Court before their appointments.

Justice AKM Asaduzzaman was born on Mar 1, 1959. He joined the legal profession after obtaining his LLB and LLM degrees from the University of Rajshahi. In 1983, he enrolled as an advocate in the Judges’ Court, later joining the High Court in 1985 and the Appellate Division in 2001.

He was appointed as an additional judge in the High Court Division on Aug 27, 2003, and made permanent after two years. He served for 22 years as a judge in the High Court Division, before being appointed to the Appellate Division.

Justice Farah Mahbub was born on May 27, 1966. She obtained her LLB and LLM degrees from the University of Dhaka.

After joining the legal profession, she was enrolled to the Judges’ Court in 1992, and later the High Court in 1994 and Appellate Division in 2002.

She joined the High Court Division as an additional judge on Aug 23, 2004, and was made permanent after two years.
