Another person has died of dengue in Chattogram, bringing this year’s death toll from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease in the district to three.
The district's Civil Surgeon Dr Jahangir Alam said the death was reported at Chattogram Medical College Hospital on Saturday.
The deceased, 65-year-old Nurul Alam from Patiya Upazila, was admitted to the hospital with the infection a day before his demise on Friday.
However, this is the first death since the onset of the monsoon season when the current outbreak began.
Meanwhile, 23 new dengue cases were reported in Chattogram in the past 24 hours, the highest single-day count so far this year.
According to Jahangir, 37 dengue patients are currently receiving treatment at government and private hospitals across the district.
A total of 609 dengue cases have been recorded in the hilly district as of now. Among them, June saw the highest number, 176.
Of the total infected, 277 are from the city, 332 from multiple Upazilas, and notably 104 from Banshkhali.
The patients include 339 men, 174 women, and 96 children.
One of the three dengue-related deaths in Chattogram this year was logged in January while another in May.
