A member of the Bangladesh Navy has been killed and another injured after a bus hit their motorcycle in Chattogram's Patiya.

The accident happened on Friday at the Patiya bypass on the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar Highway, according to police.

The dead man was identified as 38-year-old Nazmus Sakib, who was serving as a leading seaman at the Navy’s Isa Khan Base in Patenga. The injured rider, Ikram Hossain, is also a serving sailor.

Patenga Highway Police Inspector Harunur Rashid said the motorcycle was struck from behind by a Cox’s Bazar-bound bus operated by Hanif Paribahan at the Sheyanpara crossing.

The impact threw both riders onto the road, with Sakib being crushed under the wheels of the bus and dying at the scene, he added.

The bus has been seized, but the driver and his assistant fled after the crash, according to police.
