Lynch mob kills man accused of rape attempt in Barishal

His mom claims he was framed for refusing to sell drugs

A youth accused in a rape attempt case has been beaten to death by locals in the latest case of mob-lynching.

Kotwali Model Police Station chief Mizanur Rahman said the incident took place on Saturday on Dhan Gobeshona Road in Barishal city.

The deceased, 24-year-old Sujon, identified with a single name, was a resident of the city's Zianagar. He used to drive a battery-powered autorickshaw.

Mizanur said an allegation of attempted rape of a child was made in Zianagar on Mar 13.

The child was admitted to the One Stop Crisis Centre of Barishal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

The child's father said on Friday afternoon, the owner of Sujon's house had given his daughter curry in a bowl.

While returning, she noticed a cartoon playing on the TV in Sujon's house and sat down to watch it, and there Sujon attempted to rape her.

Sujon’s mother, Manju Begum, said her son was innocent and had been framed for refusing to sell drugs.

She added that when some people had offered to settle the case for Tk 20,000 and he refused, 10-15 individuals tied him to a tree and beat him to death.
