A 13-year-old boy has died from gunshot wounds after being caught in the middle of a shootout between two groups at the Geneva Camp at Dhaka’s Mohammadpur.

Md Rahmat aka Surgeon died around 8am on Monday.

He had been admitted to the ICU at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Saturday after being shot.

Inspector Md Faruk, chief of the DMCH Police Camp, said the body had been transferred to the hospital’s morgue for an autopsy.

An exchange of gunfire occurred during a clash between two sides at the Geneva Camp around 5:30pm on Saturday.

Mohammad Murad, the older brother of the victim, said that Rahmat had left home to get water on the day of the incident.

He was caught in the middle of the shootout and critically injured by gunshot wounds to the chest, right hand and lower torso.

Rahmat was first rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital and then to DMCH.

The victim was the youngest son of barbershop worker Shamser Ali.

Since the fall of the Awami League government on Aug 5, there have been regular clashes between several gangs over control of the drug trade. With Rahmat’s death, the death toll from the violence has risen to four.

Those connected to these incidents believe that weapons looted from police stations are being hidden at the Geneva Camp.
