Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister, has arrived in Dhaka on a two-day visit as part of efforts to strengthen ties between the two countries.

Dar landed in the Bangladeshi capital on Saturday afternoon, with the Pakistani foreign ministry confirming his arrival in a post on X.

He was received at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by Bangladesh’s Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, along with Pakistan’s High Commissioner Imran Haider and other officials.

His visit marks the first by a Pakistani foreign minister since Hina Rabbani Khar travelled to Dhaka in November 2012.

Dar is scheduled to hold bilateral talks on Sunday with Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hossain, where up to six agreements and memoranda of understanding may be signed, according to foreign ministry officials.

He will also pay a courtesy call on Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus later in the day. In addition, meetings are expected with BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami.
