The Rapid Action Battalion, or RAB, has taken the 11-year-old girl “missing” from Dhaka’s Adabor area in custody in Naogaon following her discovery.
She was located from the district’s Maddapara area on Tuesday, according to Naogan Sadar Model Police Station chief Noor-A-Alam Siddiqi.
“The rescued girl is now in RAB custody. They will hand her over to the family."
However, the boy she "ran" with has not yet been arrested, he said.
RAB-5 Operations Officer ASP Rafiqul Islam said around 6:30pm on Tuesday: "We took the girl into custody around 4pm. She is being brought to the RAB-5 office in Rajshahi from Naogaon, but our team has not yet arrived."
RAB-2 Assistant Director ASP Khan Asif Tapu said: "We have sent the girl's father to Rajshahi. We will hand over the girl to him after reaching there."
Earlier in the afternoon, Adabor Police Station chief SM Jakaria said the girl was found in Naogaon.
"She went there willingly with a boy who was seen in the CCTV footage."
Her father filed a GD, or complaint, with Adabor Police Station on Monday evening seeking his daughter’s whereabouts.
On that night, her father told bdnews24.com that his daughter attends the 6th grade at a school in Barishal.
Due to his wife’s cancer treatment, they have been staying at his sister’s house in Dhaka for the past two months.
“My daughter went out with her cousin on Sunday evening, and while crossing the road, her cousin crossed ahead of her.
When he turned back, she was nowhere to be found, the child's father said.
Meanwhile, an officer from Mohammadpur Police Station said the girl was seen in a video footage outside Tokyo Square in Adabor. Apart from the girl's paternal cousin, another person was present there.
“They walked out of the frame. Police are trying to gather more footage.”
The news of the child’s disappearance with her photo went viral on Facebook. Netizens also made posts seeking help.
