A 5-month-old child with measles symptoms has died in Sylhet Division.

The total number of deaths associated with the disease in the division has now risen to 69.

According to Mohammad Nur-e-Alam Shamim, assistant director of the Sylhet Directorate General of Health Services, the child died while receiving treatment at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital.

The deceased, Jawat, was a resident of Sunamganj Sadar Upazila.

A report from the office of the divisional director of Sylhet DGHS stated that between 8:00am Saturday and 8:00am Sunday, 295 patients with measles symptoms were receiving treatment at various hospitals across the division.

During the same period, another 63 suspected measles patients were admitted to different hospitals.

According to the report, a total of 65 people with measles symptoms have died in Sylhet so far. Four other deaths came from confirmed measles, bringing the total death toll to 69.
