Teachers suspend work stoppage, primary exams from Sunday

The suspension has been announced late at night by two nationwide primary teachers’ platforms

Government primary school teachers who had launched protests demanding implementation of 11th-grade pay have announced the suspension of their work stoppage.

The protesting teachers also confirmed that annual examinations at primary schools will resume from Sunday.

The decision was announced shortly after midnight on Thursday in a joint media statement issued by two teacher platforms -- the Primary Teachers’ Demand Implementation Council and the Primary Assistant Teachers’ Organisation Unity Council.

The statement said, “Considering morality, humanitarian values, and the wellbeing of our students, the complete shutdown or lockout protest at all government primary schools across the country will remain suspended until the completion of the examinations starting Sunday.”
