The Border Guard Bangladesh, or BGB, has increased patrols along the Teknaf border in Cox's Bazar, considering the situation in Myanmar's Rakhine State.
Teknaf-2 Battalion Acting Commander Major Syed Ishtiaq Murshed confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday.
“Patrols have been strengthened along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border in the Naf River area, which falls under Teknaf Battalion's jurisdiction," he said.
Major Ishtiaq added, "On Monday, naval patrols were conducted from BRM-6 to BRM-10, covering the high-risk areas along the Naf River and the islands within Bangladesh's maritime boundary to extend control."
He highlighted that the BGB is conducting 24-hour patrols both on land and water, ensuring tight security at the border, and remains on high alert to handle any situation.
The move comes after the Arakan Army insurgent group claimed control of Maungdaw on Sunday morning, following months of fighting with Myanmar's government forces.
The news was published in different international media outlets on Monday.
No new explosions have been reported from across the border in Teknaf since Monday evening.
