Two pedestrians, including a pregnant woman, have ben run over and killed by a truck as they were crossing the road in Gopalganj. Two other people, including a child, were injured in the same incident.

The accident occurred on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway around 12:30pm on Thursday in Muksudpur Upazila’s Old Muksudpur, said Inspector Shital Chandra Pal.

The dead were identified as 30-year-old Rahima Begum, the pregnant wife of A Rahman from Faridpur’s Boalmari, and 70-year-old Jamal Uddin, who also hailed from Boalmari.

Mehedi Hasan, station officer for the Muksudpur Fire Service, said that a sand-laden truck headed to Dhaka ran over four people in Old Muksudpur. Rahima was killed on the spot.

Jamal and three others were injured. Jamal was admitted to the Muksudpur Upazila in critical condition and died there.

Inspector Shital said the truck involved in the accident has been seized and the bodies will be handed over to their families after legal processing is complete.
