Two passengers have been killed and at least 10 others injured when the driver lost control of a bus on the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway in Cumilla’s Eliotganj, causing it to overturn before a microbus collided with it.

The accident occurred around 10:30pm on Thursday on the Chattogram-bound lane at Turnipara, said Elliotganj Highway Police chief Ruhul Amin.

Police confirmed that the two victims were male bus passengers, though their identities were not immediately known.

The injured were taken to Chandina Upazila Health Complex and nearby hospitals.

Sub-inspector Md Fazlur Rahman said a Star Line bus heading from Dhaka to Feni lost control while taking a U-turn, hitting a road divider before overturning onto the opposite lane.

A Dhaka-bound microbus then collided with the vehicle.

Locals and police helped rush the injured to hospitals. The crash caused a tailback stretching several kilometres on both sides of the highway.

Police said efforts were underway to clear the congestion.
