A late-night fire has destroyed four warehouses storing fabric scraps in Gazipur city.
The fire broke out in the Haydarabad area around 11:45pm on Saturday, according to officials.
It took five Fire Service units three and a half hours to take control of the situation, said Mohammad Mamun, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service.
The fire is believed to have started at the warehouse of scrap trader Kaiyum before spreading to adjacent facilities owned by Mizan and Abdul Aziz.
Local residents initially tried to contain the flames, but called in firefighters when the fire grew uncontrollable.

Three units from the Tongi and two from the Joydebpur fire stations took part in the operation.
“We prioritised stopping the flames from reaching nearby homes and warehouses,” Mamun said, adding that large quantities of fabrics and other flammable materials made the task challenging.
No casualties have been reported.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage will be determined following an investigation, officials said.
