Sajek Valley resorts fully booked as Eid holidayers descend in droves on Rangamati

Extended public holidays drive record bookings across hill tract resorts from Mar 22-28

A week-long public holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr has triggered a massive rush of tourists to the Chattorgram Hill Tracts, with resorts in Sajek Valley and Rangamati town reporting full bookings.

All 111 resorts and cottages in Sajek Valley are 100 percent booked from Mar 22 to 28, according to the Sajek Resort and Cottage Owners' Association.

"Bookings began five days ago," said Supan Deb Barman, president of the association.

"We have reached full capacity for the 22nd to 27th of March period. We cannot provide rooms even if requested; there is simply no vacancy left," he added.

The surge is not limited to Sajek.

In Rangamati town, popular spots such as the Hanging Bridge, Polwel Park, and various lakefront resorts are also nearing capacity.

Sumet Chakma, general secretary of the Rangamati Resort Owners' Association, noted that many tourists are taking advantage of the extended holiday.

"Since the break is longer this year, people are heading to the hills for extended stays. Our member resorts are fully booked until 28 March," he said.

At the Rangamati Tourism Holiday Complex, 80 percent of the 87 rooms are already reserved.

Manager Alok Bikash Chakma said they have repainted the iconic Hanging Bridge and enhanced services in anticipation of a record turnout.

"The weather and security environment are both favourable, which is encouraging more visitors," he added.

The Tourist Police have ramped up security measures to manage the influx.

Inspector Md Tarikul Alam Jewel of the Rangamati Zone said a control room has been established, and patrol teams will be stationed at key tourist spots and boat ghats to ensure safety.
