Government moves to launch Cumilla WASA amid rapid urban expansion

The decision comes amid a growing population and unchecked urbanisation in the city

The government has decided in principle to formulate the Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) in Cumilla city, according to an inter-ministerial meeting.

The decision came at an inter-ministerial meeting, led by Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday, aiming to ensure modern and sustainable water management in the city, according to a media statement.

Citing a growing population and unchecked urbanisation in the city, the meeting emphasised the need for potable water supply, a modern sewage system and long-term urban management.
