Mobasser Monem, a professor in the Department of Governance and Public Management at Dhaka University, has been appointed as the chairman of the Public Service Commission.
The president appointed Monem to the post on Wednesday and the Ministry of Public Administration issued a notice to the effect.
He will remain in the post for five years or until he reaches the age of retirement for public sector jobs at 65, whichever comes first.
Monem holds a PhD from the University of London and has completed post-doctoral research at both Sussex University and the University of Heidelberg.
He is an expert on governance, public sector innovation, and comparative public policy and serves as a consultant.
Md Sujayet Ulah, Nurul Kadir, and Md Aminul Islam have also been appointed as new PSC members in separate government notices.
PSC chairman Mohammad Sohrab Hossain and 12 members of the commission submitted their letters of resignation to the president on Tuesday.
