Dhaka, Aug 6 (bdnews24.com) — Dhaka Abahani have pushed aside Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited by 3-2 in a penalty shootout to win Tk 10 million Grameenphone Super Cup in their final match on Saturday.
The arch rivals ended their stipulated 90 minutes and an extra time of 30 minutes in a 2-2 draw at Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Defending Champion Mohammedan were reduced to 10-men team when Ghana defender Md. Al Hasan punched Twum Frank in the 40th minute prompting referee Miron to flash the red card to send Hasan out.
Earlier, Sunday Chizoba scored the first goal in the 23rd minute with a diving header off a neat right flank cross of Shariful.
Shariful was instrumental again in the 31st minute when his attempted cross fisted into the middle of the box and the ball fell into the feet of unmarked Towhid who just tapped home from close margin.
Twum Frank, the Ghanaian forward reduced the margin in the 35th minute after Awudu Ibarhim set him free with a backpass and Twum hit the back of the net from the middle of the box.
Twum Frank equalised in the 75th minute with a diagonal shot off an Alfaz chip from the middle of the box.
Cletus Blamo, Shakhawat Rony and Lincon scored for Abahani in the penalty shootout while Alfaz and Twum Frank missed.
Sunday Chizoba and Bhashani converted for Dhaka Mohammedan while Baybeck, Amani and Nche Francis failed.
Finance minister A.M.A. Muhith distributed the prizes as the chief guest while State minister for youth and sports Ahad Ali Sarker and BFF president Kazi Salahuddin were present on the occasion.
