The Fantasy Premier League (FPL) has continued to grow steadily since its inception 23 years ago, with a record-breaking 11.5 million players taking part in the 2024/25 season.
WHAT IS FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE?
FPL is a free-to-play online game run by the Premier League, where you become the manager of your own virtual football team.
You pick a squad of 15 real-life Premier League players within a £100 million budget, earning points based on their actual performances on the pitch.
The budget forces tough choices, balancing premium players with lesser-known gems. Each week, you select a starting XI from your squad, choose a captain who earns double points, and make transfers to keep your team competitive as the season unfolds.
GETTING STARTED
Here’s how to jump into FPL:
Sign Up: Visit fantasy.premierleague.com or download the Premier League app. Registration is free and only requires an email address.
Build Your Squad: You get £100 million to pick 15 players (2 goalkeepers, 5 defenders, 5 midfielders, 3 forwards). Player prices reflect their contributions in the field and their real-life value.
For example, Haaland will cost £14 million, while a lesser-known forward is priced at £5.5 million.
Weekly Management: Each Premier League gameweek (a set of matches, usually over a weekend), you choose your starting eleven and captain and vice captain.
Track Points: Points are awarded based on player performances. Each season the point system changes a bit to keep the game up to date.
Join a League: You can also be part of a global or local community via FPL. You can join different leagues to compete with friends.
