Dhaka, Dec 12 (BDNEWS) – Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Barrister Moudud Ahmed Monday said the society would have to be built on the basis of logic, talent, wisdom, knowledge and competition to face the challenges of globalisation.
"This is the age of the challenges of globalisation and information technology. The world is going on keeping pace with the challenges. We will have to build up our country on the basis of logic, talent, wisdom and knowledge to survive in the competition," he said.
He was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of week-long "Presidency University Victory Day Debate Competition" jointly organised by Presidency University and National Debate Federation at the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) auditorium in Dhaka.
Barrister Moudud said debate is the first step for being a good parliamentarian.
"There are many parliament members in our country as well as in many countries, but all of them are not perfect parliamentarians as they are not good debaters," he said.
The Law Minister said a good debater would have to have knowledge, information, intelligence and patience and have to practise to build up such mentality in this regard.
Presided over by pro-vice chancellor of Presidency University Prof M Harunur Rashid the function was addressed, among others, by chairman of Hosaf Group of Industries Moazzem Hossain, convener of the debate competition Dr Arifa Begum, chairman of National Debate Federation Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron and its general secretary AKM Shoaib.
Students of 20 colleges of Dhaka, including Viqarunnisa Noon College, Holy Cross College, Harman Mainer College, Mohammadpur Preparatory College, RAJUK Uttara Model College, Siddeshwari Girls' College, Dhaka Imperial College, Daffodil International College and Tejgaon Women's College, are participating in the debate competition titled as-"Muktijuddher Chetana Britha Jaini (Spirit of the Liberation War has not gone in vain).
The competition will conclude on December 18.
