Khaleda Zia initiated construction of World Trade Center in Chittagong, BNP leaders claim

Chittagong BNP leaders have claimed that the multi-storied commercial building World Trade Center is a brainchild of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and her party led coalition government.

The leaders of Chittagong Metropolitan, north and south BNP made the claim in a statement on Friday afternoon.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the 91 meter tall, 21 storied World Trade Center at Agrabad commercial area on Saturday. The total cost of the project was Tk 2 billon.

According to the statement, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia initiated the project and allotted land for the building free of cost.

Khaleda inaugurated the construction work on Jan 30, 2006, it added.

Former Commerce Minister and BNP leader Amir Khasru Chowdhury also contributed to the project, they said.

Had it not been initiated by the BNP chairperson, it would not have been reality, they further claimed. 

“Therefore, the high-rise building is solely Khaleda’s contribution to Chittagong”, the statement said.
