Dhaka, August 24 (BDNEWS)- Justice Joynul Abedin, the newly appointed Judge of the Appellate Division, took oath Thursday amid protests by a section of lawyers that the appointment has been made superseding three senior judges of the High Court Division.
The Chief Justice Syed J.R. Mudassir Hossain administered the oath at the Judges' Lounge of the Supreme Court.
Protesting the appointment, the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) boycotted the oath taking ceremony while a section of pro-government lawyers experienced the occasion.
Attorney General A.J. Mohammad Ali, pro-government lawyer T.H. Khan and Justice Joynul Abdin spoke on the occasion.
On Wednesday, Justice Joynul Abedin was elevated to the Appellate Division, superseding Justice Syed Amirul Islam, Justice Md. Hasan Amin and Justice A.K. Badrul Haque.
Sammilito Ainjibi Samannay Parishad, an anti-government platform of the lawyers, formed a human chain at noon at the Supreme Court premises, protesting the Abedin's appointment to the Appellate Division and 17 other judges in the High Court Division.
