Falu, now undergoing treatment in Thailand, informed the party about his resignation by phone on Saturday afternoon, BNP Chairperson’s Media Wing member Shairul Kabir Khan told bdnews24.com.

“He (Falu) only told me on the phone that he has resigned. He did not say why he did it,” Khan said.

Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made public the new committee approved by Chairperson Khaleda Zia earlier in the morning.

Falu, the owner of private station NTV, was among 37 vice-chairmen.

He had been a member of Khaleda’s Advisory Council. The council now has 73 members.

Falu had been an aide to Khaleda and elected MP in Dhaka in a by-election.

The NTV chairman is undergoing treatment in Bangkok’s Bumrungrad International Hospital now.

Shamimur Rahman Shamim, who was named assistant publicity secretary in the new committee, has also resigned.

He told bdnews24.com he had sent a letter to the party’s secretary general to withdraw his name from the post.

He did not say why he has resigned.
