Dhaka, May 13 (bdnews24.com)—The High Court on Wednesday declared illegal the retirement forced on former secretary to the prime minister's office AHM Nurul Islam by the BNP-led coalition government.
The bench of justices ABM Khairul Haque and Md Momotaj Uddin Ahmed delivered the verdict after the final hearing of a writ petition filed by Islam.
The verdict said the government can pension any of its employee in public interest but Islam's retirement was done only to put him under unbearable pressure.
Islam was pensioned on June 3, 2004.
Dr Kamal Hossain and barrister Sara Hossain argued for the former PMO secretary.
"The High Court declared Nurul Islam's retirement illegal. His service age is now over though," Sara told reporters after the verdict.
