After spending the night at her parents' home in Dhanmondi, Zubaida Rahman has returned to Evercare Hospital, where her ailing mother-in-law and BNP chief Khaleda Zia has been receiving critical care for the last two weeks.

She arrived at the hospital around 11:30am on Sunday and was with Khaleda in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU), according to Atikur Rahman Rumon, a BNP media cell official.

"Even when she was at home at night, she remained in constant contact with the CCU doctors at Evercare,” he said.

Zubaida, the wife of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, flew into Dhaka from London on Friday with the intention of accompanying Khaleda abroad for advanced medical care.

Since her arrival, she has been spending each day at Evercare Hospital assisting with the care of her mother-in-law.

Zubaida, a physician by training, is herself a member of the medical board. While she had previously joined consultations virtually, she is now attending them in person after arriving in the country and is directly involved in coordinating the care plan, according to Rumon.

Doctors at Evercare said a meeting of the medical board began at midday on Sunday, with Zubaida in attendance.

Senior physicians are also joining the board’s discussions online. Tarique is participating virtually from London, while specialist doctors from the United States are taking part remotely.

On Saturday, doctors said the 79-year-old former prime minister's condition remained “largely unchanged”, and she had not yet been deemed fit to fly.

“Several parameters are showing positive signs, but it can't be said that her condition has improved. If these positive indicators continue, she may be fit to fly by the 9th or 10th of December,” a medical board member said.

BNP officials said a specialised air ambulance arranged by Qatar will land in Dhaka only once her doctors issue a green signal for her travel.

Khaleda has been hospitalised since Nov 23. A medical board led by Prof Shahabuddin Talukder is supervising her treatment.

The BNP chief has long suffered from arthritis and diabetes, as well as complex problems involving her kidneys, liver, lungs, heart and eyes.
