Jatiya Nagorik Committee Chief Convenor Mohammad Nasiruddin Patwary plans to spend Tk 2.7 million in his campaign for the Dhaka-8 parliamentary seat in the upcoming general election, but plans to only contribute Tk 100,000 of his own money to the war chest.

In an affidavit submitted to the Election Commission, Patwary said he assumes the remaining Tk 2.6 million will come from money received through “voluntary donations” and “crowd funding”.

Candidates have to declare the source of election expenses when submitting their nomination papers to the Election Commission. They also have to report the amount spent in each sector after the vote.

The Dhaka-8 constituency has 275,468 voters. According to election law, a candidate can only spend Tk 10 per voter on their campaign. As a result, Patwary can spend Tk 2,754,680 in his campaign. Accordingly, he has registered his possible campaign spending at Tk 2.7 million.

The updated RPO (Representation of People Order) states that a registered party can receive a maximum of Tk 5 million from any individual or organisation.

INCOME AND ASSETS

Patwary has listed his profession as “Marketing Consultant” in his affidavit. He said he also had a separate job.

His annual income is listed as Tk 220,000 as a consultant and he also earnt Tk 245,333 from his job. This means his total annual income was Tk 465,333.

According to the declared assets, the NCP leader has a total of Tk 2.5 million in cash. He also has three accounts in different banks. One of them has a balance of Tk 8,275, the second has Tk 9,712 and the third has no money.

He added in his affidavit that he owned gold jewellery and precious metals worth Tk 1 million in his name and another Tk 1.2 million in his wife’s name.

His total assets thus stand at around Tk 3.66 million.

Apart from this, he stated that he and his wife do not have any immovable property like land, flats, buildings, or commercial spaces.

The 30-year-old running for parliament for the first time does not have any debts either.

In the income tax return submitted to the National Board of Revenue (NBR), he showed an annual income of Tk 447,333 and assets of Tk 2,630,000. Against this, he paid Tk 5,000 in income tax.

The affidavit says that there is no ongoing case against Patwary and noted that he had previously been acquitted in two cases.

Patwary, who holds an MBA, was born on Nov 1, 1995. He is the candidate of the Jamaat-e-Islami-led alliance for the Dhaka-8 constituency.
