National Citizen Party (NCP) leaders have demanded an inquiry into the intelligence officers on duty in Gopalganj over the attack on their rally, calling for actions against anyone found guilty of concealing information.

They made this demand at a media briefing at the party office at Dhaka’s Bangla Motor on Thursday.

NCP leader Mostaq Ahmed Shishir said, “The home advisor said intelligence had prior information about the incident, but not about the extent of its severity.

“That is why an investigation must be conducted, and action should be taken against the intelligence personnel responsible in that area.

“The banned Awami [League] miscreants identified in the video footage must be arrested and brought to justice. Security should also be further reinforced for the remainder of the [July March].”

The party's Joint Member Secretary, Nizam Uddin, said: “The NCP has been able to complete the July March in 32 districts successfully. However, after going to Gopalganj, the banned Awami League members ambushed the heroes of the mass uprising.

“They gathered in Gopalganj long ago to disrupt the NCP march and attack the rally.

“Their main goal was to kill the frontline leaders, including Nahid Islam, Akhtar Hossain, Hasnat Abdullah, and Sarjis Alam. This incident has exposed the extreme negligence of the interim government.”

The Municipal Park and Launch Ghat areas of Gopalganj town descended into chaos on Wednesday amid attacks, clashes, and casualties surrounding the NCP rally.

Four people were killed in the violence, and many others sustained gunshot injuries.

According to hospital authorities, 15 people have been admitted for treatment, with three of them being transferred to Dhaka in critical condition.

NCP Joint Member Secretary SM Shahriar said the party will hold a protest rally outside the National Press Club at 4pm on Friday in response to the incident. Leaders and activists from Dhaka are expected to attend.
