Former deputy minister for finance Fakhrul Islam Munshi, a member of the Awami League Advisory Council, has died at the age of 76.
Munshi died on Saturday while undergoing treatment for internal bleeding in the brain, his family said. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
The ex-deputy minister breathed his last at 4:40 am at United Hospital in Gulshan, the family said.
He suffered a brain stroke and had been on life support since Oct 9.
Munshi was born on Nov 29, 1947 in Debidwar. He was elected MP as a Jatiya Party candidate in 1986 and 1988. He served as deputy finance minister during the Ershad administration.
The first funeral prayers for Munshi will be held in Bonkut Village in Debidwar. Later, other funeral prayers will be held at Debidwar ABM Golam Mostafa Stadium, Parliament Plaza, and in the Gulshan Society Mosque. He will be laid to rest at Banani Graveyard.
