Century-old structure razed in Old Dhaka

A large portion of this century-old structure on Dinanath Sen Road in Old Dhaka’s Gendaria has been demolished. The demolition work is currently on hold due to a notice from the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha, or RAJUK.

Its ornate design, featuring Corinthian columns, semicircular arches, and intricately crafted walls, parts of which have been demolished stand as a testament to the city’s rich architectural heritage. Photo: Abdullah al Momin

According to sources from Save the Heritage Bangladesh, the building was built in 1898 by Tarak Bandhu Mitra. He was a school inspector by profession and hailed from Manikganj’s Matta village. Photo: Abdullah al Momin
