Hospitals across Bangladesh have admitted 1,186 dengue patients in the latest 24-hour count, taking the tally of infections with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease since Jan 1 to 43,656.
The death toll rose to 215 as the disease claimed another life in this period, the Directorate General of Health Services, or DGHS, said on Monday.
Among the new dengue patients hospitalised until morning, 517 were in the capital.
In addition, 113 were hospitalised in the Dhaka Division, 32 in the Mymensingh Division, 209 in the Chattogram Division, 152 in the Khulna Division, 41 in the Rajshahi Division, 21 in Rangpur Division, five in the Sylhet Division, and 96 in the Barishal Division.
On Monday morning, a total of 3,717 dengue patients were receiving treatment at hospitals across the country. They included 1,871 in Dhaka and 1,846 outside the capital.
The DGHS has been keeping records of dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000.
Since then, a record 321,179 dengue hospitalisations were logged in 2023. The highest 1,705 people also died of the disease that year.
