Bangladesh records three dengue deaths as hospitalisations top 512

The mosquito-borne disease has claimed 47 lives this year

Bangladesh has reported three more dengue deaths in a 24-hour count, while 512 new patients have been admitted to hospitals with the mosquito-borne disease.

The latest figures from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) bring this year's death toll to 47.

Of them, 29 have died in July alone.

According to Tuesday's bulletin, covering the 24 hours to 8am Tuesday, two deaths were reported in Khulna Division and one in Chattogram Division.

During the same period, 85 patients were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka North City Corporation and 76 in Dhaka South.

Another 40 were hospitalised elsewhere in Dhaka Division.

Admissions also included 75 in Barishal Division, 75 in Chattogram, 84 in Khulna, 13 in Mymensingh, 34 in Rajshahi, 28 in Rangpur and one in Sylhet.

Hospitals across the country have discharged 532 patients after recovery over the past 24 hours.

Since Jan 1, Bangladesh has recorded 14,156 dengue hospitalisations, with 13,009 patients recovering.

The health directorate has tracked dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000.

The deadliest outbreak came in 2023, when 321,179 people were hospitalised and 1,705 died.

Last year, more than 400 people died and about 102,000 dengue cases were recorded.
