Five more children with measles symptoms have died while undergoing treatment at three hospitals in Sylhet Division within 24 hours.
Sylhet Directorate General of Health Services Assistant Director Mohammad Noore Alam Shamim confirmed the fatalities on Friday.
With this, the division's death toll this year has gone up to 47, of whom four died from confirmed measles and 43 with symptoms.
The five victims are: 5-month-old Raisa from Nabiganj Upazila in Habiganj, who died at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital (SOMCH); Ali Afsan, six, from Chhatak Upazila in Sunamganj, who died at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital; 10-month-old Muslima from Dirai Upazila in Sunamganj, also at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital; Rashed Ahmed, one year and two months, from Sylhet Sadar Upazila; and Shamima, four years and two months, who died at Sunamganj District Sadar Hospital.
According to the Sylhet Divisional DGHS report, 283 patients with measles symptoms were under treatment across the division's hospitals in the 24 hours to 8am on Friday.
No new cases were confirmed through laboratory testing during this period, though 74 suspected patients were admitted.
A total of 158 lab-confirmed measles patients have been identified in the division this year, the report said.
