Another child with measles symptoms dies, toll hits 28 in Mymensingh

Hospital records show over 1,200 children have sought treatment for similar infections since mid-March

A 7-month-old infant with measles symptoms has died at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) over the past 24 hours, taking the number of such deaths at the hospital to 28.

The child, admitted on May 8, passed away around 6am on Monday, according to the hospital’s Assistant Director (Administration) Md Mynuddin Khan.

Dr Mynuddin said 1,244 children with measles symptoms were admitted to the hospital between Mar 17 and 8am on May 11 May.

Of them, 1,127 have recovered and left the hospital.

In the past 24 hours, 24 new children were admitted, while 35 others were discharged after treatment.

At present, 89 children are undergoing care in the hospital’s 64-bed ward, he added.
