Veteran actor KS Firoz dies of COVID-19 at 76

Veteran actor KS Firoz has died from COVID-19 at the age of 76.

Firoz, a retired army major, breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka at 6:20 am on Wednesday, said his daughter Nadia Firoz.

“My father was suffering from pneumonia. He was diagnosed with the coronavirus on Aug 28 and was subsequently admitted to CMH on Aug 30. He suffered multiple strokes during his treatment. The second stroke led to his death.”

Firoz will be laid to rest at the Banani graveyard after Zuhr prayers.

The noted actor was born in Dhaka to his parents AJM Sayeedur Rahman and Rabeya Khatun. He spent his childhood in Barishal and studied at Jagannath College in Dhaka. His full name was Khandaker Shaheed Uddin Firoz.

Firoz was survived by his wife Madhobi and three daughters.

Two of them Nadia and Rabeya live in Bangladesh, while his other daughter Sadia lives in the US.

Before he rose to popularity in acting, Firoz joined the Bangladesh Army in 1967. He began his career as an actor regularly after retiring from the army in 1977.

The veteran actor worked both big and small screens. He was the president and senior member of a theatre group, Natyadal.

Firoz came to the limelight by playing the protagonist in ‘King Lear’ when he began his career. Firoz also worked in television advertisements.
