Mohammadpur Police Station OC Azizul Haque told bdnews24.com on Saturday that the singer's wife Ananya had filed a case alleging torture on Friday night.
Arfin was arrested from his Mohammadpur residence after the case was filed, Haque said.
Ananya is the first wife of the popular singer.
Rumey has also married a non-resident Bangladeshi about a year back.
He got the 'UroCJFB performance award' for his album Esho Na in 2009 and the 'Binodon-Bichitra best composer award' in 2010.
Rumey is also a member of the band Durbin.
He has seen success in a short time.
As a composer, he became very popular in 2010 with the song 'Er beshi bhalobasha jay na' which was sung by Shafiq Tuhin.
After that, two more songs from the mixed album Porshi and Chitti became popular.
India's legend AR Rahman is Rumey's 'sole-inspiration for music, as the singer-composer has said.
