A new “Sesame Street” film is in production at Netflix, bringing Elmo, Cookie Monster and their friends to another big-screen adventure.
The streaming platform announced on Thursday that it was making the film with production company Rideback and Sesame Workshop, the non-profit organisation behind “Sesame Street”.
Netflix has not yet revealed a title, release date or plot for the movie.
The project forms part of a wider expansion of “Sesame Street” on the platform, with Netflix and Sesame Workshop extending their agreement for new seasons of the television show through Season 62.
Netflix launched its “Sesame Street” collection in June with more than 100 older episodes and specials. Season 57, Volume 4 is due to arrive on Nov 23, with two more volumes planned for 2027.
The franchise also has a familiar connection for audiences in Bangladesh.
“Sesame Street” inspired “Sisimpur”, Sesame Workshop’s Bangladeshi co-production, which has provided early-learning content to children across the country since 2005.
The programme features locally created characters, including Halum, Tuktuki, Ikri and Shiku, alongside lessons covering literacy, maths, science and social and emotional skills.
Sesame Workshop has described “Sisimpur” as part of the fabric of Bangladeshi society, with one generation having grown up with the programme while another continues to watch it today.
