Organisers have postponed three concerts featuring Pakistani musicians that were scheduled to take place in Dhaka on Friday and Saturday.
New dates will be announced later, the organisers said on Thursday.
The “Max Republic” concert at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center in Purbachal was set to bring together Nagarbaul James and Pakistani artistes Ali Azmat, Mustafa Zahid and the band Jal on Friday.
Organised by Xiaomi, the concert was postponed in a Facebook post on Thursday.
“We deeply regret to inform you that the ‘Max Republic’ concert, presented by Xiaomi, has been postponed until further notice. Details on the new date will be shared once confirmed,” the organisers wrote.
Friday was also due to feature “Sense It with Murtaza Qizilbash”, pairing Pakistan’s Murtaza Qizilbash with Bangladeshi singer Habib Wahid.
Organisers Dhaka Beats said all necessary clearances had been obtained, but the show had to be rescheduled at the last minute “due to security concerns and directives from the relevant authorities”.
A third event, “Kaavish Live in Dhaka”, featuring Pakistani band Kaavish, was scheduled for Saturday.
Organisers PrimeWave Communication said the show would not go ahead as planned on Sept 26.
“Despite completing all necessary preparations, approvals and formalities, the government authorities have directed that the event not be held, due to unavoidable circumstances beyond our control.”
“As a result, all the events have been postponed,” they said, adding that tickets already purchased would remain valid for the rescheduled date.
Apart from the Qizilbash show, some of the Pakistani artistes due to perform this weekend have previously had Dhaka appearances cancelled.
Azmat had performed in Bangladesh twice before with the band Junoon, but Friday’s show was to have marked his first solo concert in the city.
Two previous attempts, in May and November last year, were cancelled. On the latter occasion, he had already arrived in Dhaka before flying back without performing.
Zahid had a similar experience, travelling to Dhaka in April last year before returning without performing.
Jal’s concert at the 300 Feet Swadesh Arena on Nov 8 last year was called off a day before the event, also citing security concerns.
