Bollywood actress Kajol has shared a heartfelt birthday tribute to her mother, veteran actress Tanuja Mukherjee, as she turned 83 on Sept 23.
Kajol marked the occasion with two photos on X, including one showing her hugging her mother and kissing her on the forehead.
Alongside the pictures, she wrote: “Happy birthday to the OG :- #rulebreaker #trendsetter #fashionicon #redlipsticklady #motherextraordinaire #strongestwomaniknow #bestteacher #bestsmileintheworld Love u always and forever ;) now u can legitimately throw that 83 in my face.”
Kajol has often spoken about Tanuja’s influence on her, both personally and professionally.
During an appearance on the chat show “Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai”, Kajol praised her mother’s acting and described her as one of the most spontaneous performers she knew.
Asked by host Farooq Sheikh about Tanuja’s strengths as an actress, Kajol said: “I think she is a fabulous actress. I really do. I really think that she is an absolutely fabulous actress. She is the most spontaneous actress that I know of.”
Kajol, who worked with her mother early in her career, added: “When I worked with her in my first film, I felt like she was worlds ahead of me, and she still is worlds ahead of me.”
Explaining what set Tanuja apart as a performer, Kajol said: “She is just so spontaneous. I mean, in the talent department, I really feel, whatever people may say about me, she really is my mother, literally.”
