His statement comes amid the firestorm over the central bank losing $ 80 million from its US account in a deadly cyber heist, believed to be the worst in the world in recent memory.

“I am waiting to know what the prime minister says. I have no hesitation in resigning if it helps the Bangladesh Bank," said Rahman on Tuesday.

"I have drafted my resignation and will step down as soon as the prime minister asks me to,” he told reporters at his home .

His statement comes after an angry Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Monday said changes in the banking sector will be brought about and expressed his angst over the central bank not briefing him about the heist initially.
