Dhaka, Feb 17 (bdnews24.com) — The pre-opening session of the World Cup cricket opening ceremony at the Bangabandhu National Stadium came to a close at about 5:45pm on Thursday.
The programme began at around 4:50pm with an instrumental composition by the armed forces' orchestra amid a mammoth cheering and dancing crowd.
Later, some well-known local artistes – Tapu, Rinku, Mahadi and a few new faces – recited Bengali songs on the huge stage erected right in the centre of the stadium.
On account of the delay in the pre-opening session, the main programme now begins at 6:40pm with national anthem. Prime minister's speech takes place at 6.58pm and the colourful opening ceremony unfolds at 7:01pm.
