The Ministry of Education issued a gazette notification on Monday to this effect, Education Secretary Kamal Abdul Naser told bdnews24.com.

Dr Nabi, Professor of the Population Science Department of DU, has been appointed as the VC of the Begum Rokeya University for the next four years.

He will replace Prof Dr Mohammad Abdul Jalil Miah.

Mia was discharged from the post of the VC two days, on charges of corruption and irregularities over appointment of teachers and employees in the university, as per the recommendations of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Education and University Grants University (UGC).

Begum Rokeya University has remained closed since Apr 20, when protesters demanding Jalil’s resignation on allegation of corruption clashed with the police in the campus.
A group of teachers, students and employees have been demonstrating since January demanding the removal of the VC.
