The Department of Pharmacy and the School of Pharmacy and Public Health (SPPH) at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) have held a seminar to mark World Pharmacists Day 2026.
The seminar was held on Saturday under the theme “Empowering Pharmacists for Healthier Futures”, the university said in a statement.
Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) Additional Secretary Md Alamgir Hossain attended the event as chief guest, while IUB Vice-Chancellor Prof M Tamim chaired the event, and Husne Ara Ali, a member of the IUB Board of Trustees and vice chairman of ESTCDT, attended as special guest, the statement said.
Pharmacy Council of Bangladesh (PCB) Accreditation Committee President and Radiant Pharmaceuticals Chairman Md Nasser Shahrear Zahedee, and Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC) member Md Shah Amran delivered keynote speeches.
A panel discussion titled “Academia-Industry Relationship” brought together Noakhali Science and Technology University Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Mohammad Safiqul Islam, Dhaka University pharmacy department Chairman Prof Jakir Ahmed Chowdhury, Square Pharmaceuticals PLC Executive Director of Operations Md Mizanur Rahman, DBL Pharmaceuticals Chief Operating Officer (COO) Md Tanbir Sajib, Everest Pharmaceuticals Co-Founder and Director of Operations Mohammad Saiful Islam, and Servier Bangladesh Operations Marketing Director Mohiuddin Andalib.
IUB Department of Pharmacy Assistant Prof Akib Bin Rahman moderated the session, the statement said.
Dean of IUB’s School of Pharmacy and Public Health Kamran ul Baset was also present at the event. Senior officials from several pharmaceutical companies and institutions attended the programme, and Head of IUB Department of Pharmacy Associate Prof Nasrin Akhter delivered the welcome remarks.
The programme also featured a scientific poster display, followed by awards for winners of the poster competition.
Naima Nusrat Jahan and Rafia Rokaiya Hossain, both lecturers in IUB’s Department of Pharmacy, hosted the main programme.
