Economics professor Sayema Haque Bidisha has been appointed as the new pro-vice chancellor (administration) of Dhaka University.
The appointment was confirmed on Monday through a notification issued by the education ministry’s Deputy Secretary Mohammad Shahinur Islam.
She has been assigned to the role under the Dhaka University Order, 1973, with the approval of President Mohammed Shahabuddin, the chancellor of the university.
Prof Bidisha earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics from Dhaka University.
In addition, she holds a master's degree in economics from the University of Bath and a PhD from the University of Nottingham.
She began her career at Dhaka University as a lecturer in 2003 and progressed through various academic ranks.
She has also served as the research director at SANEM.
Her appointment follows the earlier resignation of Muhammad Samad, who had been serving as pro-vice chancellor (administration) since May 27, 2018.
Although his term was extended by another four years on Apr 12, 2022, he stepped down amidst administrative changes at the university.
