Uttara University honours 82 for research, publications at annual award ceremony

CRT director says Scopus-indexed publications grow, reflecting increased research productivity and impact at the university

Uttara University has honoured 82 faculty members and staff for their research and publication achievements at its Annual Research and Publication Award Ceremony 2026.

The university’s Centre for Research and Training (CRT) organised the event on Monday, the university said.

The recipients were recognised for research published in Web of Science- and Scopus-indexed journals in 2025. They received research and publication grants along with certificates.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Eaysmin Ara Lekha attended the ceremony as chief guest, while icddr,b Senior Scientist Dr Firdausi Qadri was the special guest, and its HR Advisor Md Musharrof Hossain was the guest of honour.

Prof Md Sultanul Islam, director of CRT, chaired the programme. Treasurer Prof Haspia Bashirullah, CRT Associate Director Saleh Ahmad and other executive members of the centre were also present. 

Around 300 full-time faculty members attended the event, the university said in a statement.

The university said three special awards were also presented for research performance in 2025. 

Nur Ahammad received the Best High-Impact Publication Award, Md Shafiul Alam Chowdhury the Most Published Paper Award, and Md Hanif Munshi the Best Early Career Researcher Award.

Presenting an overview of the university’s research activities, Saleh said Scopus-indexed publications had increased substantially compared with previous years, reflecting a growing focus on research output and impact.

Scientist Firdausi called for greater participation by female researchers in Bangladesh and encouraged them to undertake meaningful research in collaboration with leading global universities and organisations, particularly in public health and life sciences.

Prof Eaysmin said the university had expanded national and international research collaborations through academic and research partnerships. She also highlighted support for researchers through research projects, conference participation and publication assistance.

Uttara University plans to further expand its research and innovation initiatives through increased investment, international partnerships, and capacity-building programmes, according to the statement.

Programme Chair Prof Md Sultanul Islam reaffirmed the university’s commitment to creating a research-focused academic environment and encouraging faculty members, researchers and students to produce high-quality work that can contribute to its position in global university rankings.

He thanked the stakeholders for their support in organising the ceremony, the university said.
