Dhaka, Dec 25 (bdnews24.com) - American billionaire financier and philanthropist George Soros arrived in the capital on his private jet Monday to launch a publication titled "TB policy in Bangladesh: A Civil Society Perspective".
The Open Society Institute, an international philanthropic organisation established by Soros in 1993, and Public Health Watch will jointly publish the book.
He will also attend the 20th anniversary ceremony of the rights organisation Ain-O-Shalish Kendra and see around BRAC's development activities, according to a statement by microfinance institution BRAC.
Born in Budapest, Hungary in 1930, Soros is known as an American financial speculator, stock investor, philanthropist and liberal political activist.
After graduating from the London School of Economics in 1953, he accumulated vast capital after he set up a private fund, which eventually evolved into the Quantum Fund, one of the first hedge funds.
Currently, he is the Chairman of Soros Fund Management and the Open Society Institute.
With an estimated net worth of around $8.5 billion as of 2006, he is ranked by Forbes as the 27th-richest person in America.
His famous publications are The Age of Fallibility: Consequences of The War on Terror (Public Affairs, 2006), The Alchemy of Finance (1987).
