Another eight people have died from dengue over the past 24 hours, while 2,036 patients have been admitted to hospitals, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The latest figures have taken the country’s dengue toll this year to 233, including 136 in September alone. A total of 75,730 dengue patients have been hospitalised so far this year.
Dhaka has recorded a large share of the latest admissions, with 206 patients admitted to hospitals in Dhaka North City Corporation and 169 in Dhaka South. Hospitals elsewhere in Dhaka Division have reported another 432 admissions.
Among other regions, Chattogram Division has recorded 323 admissions. Barishal Division recorded 254, while Khulna 267, Rajshahi 197, Mymensingh 115, Rangpur 62 and Sylhet 11.
The DGHS has been recording dengue hospitalisations and fatalities since 2000. The highest annual number of hospitalisations was recorded in 2023, when 321,179 patients were admitted and 1,705 people died from the disease.
More than 400 people died from dengue last year, while around 102,000 cases were recorded.
