Three people have been killed and five others injured after a truck hit a passenger-bearing three-wheeler in Lalmonirhat's Patgram.
The accident occurred around 8am on Monday near Ghunti Bazar on the Burimari-Lalmonirhat Highway in Burimari Union.
Patgram Police chief Saiful Islam said three people were killed and five injured in the accident.
He could not immediately identify the dead.
Local residents said a truck travelling from Lalmonirhat towards Burimari rammed the three-wheeler from behind as they were both were heading in the same direction.
The impact caused the vehicle to veer out of control and crash into a roadside shop.
The truck also veered off the road and ploughed into several other shops in the market area.
Local residents said five passengers on the three-wheeler died at the scene, a figure that conflicts with the police’s account of three deaths.
Police and Fire Service personnel have begun rescue operations at the scene.
